The advantage of Urbit is that it makes web 3 work. The disadvantage is that it tends to obscure what the web really means: like the museum, or the state, Urbit is an interpreter. By focusing on the gates that protect the meaning of inheritance from changing or what a process of execution represents, we arrive at as much power, parsimony and security of meaning in a work of art as we do the $3.5M assigned to it. But just as a work of contemporary art is a condition of the $68.7B global art trade, and therefore open to any number of special economic channels (as a $3.5M "value") the fundamental definition for its character is never made explicit. By focusing on money, museums and politics we draw conclusions about the nature of an economy whose values are defined in terms of itself when "what we decide to make important and leave behind" is not made explicit, but fundamentally insecure.
